Lily, the Lemur, and the Lamb King: The Me Tree & Other Adventures is a brand new chapter book written by Bob Hartman, illustrated by Keila Elm, and published by The Good Book Company.
The title is what caught my eye. I read it and had no idea how any of it connected! I was curious. I needed to read this book.
I'm glad I did.
“The morning was so beautiful, it was all Lily could do to keep from leaping.
'What do you want to do today?' Lily asked.
'Something interesting. But also something safe.'
And that was when a Lamb skipped up and joined them. ”
The rest of the book is about their adventures and none of them are safe, at least according to Lemur. Along the way, you'll meet a grub, a loris, a giant rabbit, a tiny elephant, and Lily's Nan. All the characters help to tell a story from the Bible.
The chapters are fun, playful, and aren't predictable. Hartman is so creative and imaginative. He is also kind because at the end of the book he gives us all the Bible stories that go with his chapters. He did the hard work for us. Thank you!
All the chapters with the exception of one come from the New Testament and are inspired by Jesus.
“A little like the Lamb King, Jesus invites us into a kingdom where not everything is quite as you might expect.”
I highly recommend adding this book to your home library. I would say it's an early-grade chapter book that can be read independently, but read it first as a read-aloud with all your children. The older ones will love figuring out which Bible story the chapter is talking about. The younger ones will love it because the chapters are interesting and not too long.
Though each chapter has common characters, it can be read almost as if they are their own stories. Just like the title says: The Me Tree & Other Adventures. Each chapter can stand alone as its own mini adventure.
