What Are…A Training Young Hearts Series

What Are Ears For? and What Are Eyes For? by Abbey Wedgeworth, illustrated by Emma Randall. Published by The Good Book Company.

Happy New Year and happy new book reviews! I have two new books, due out on February 1st and available for pre-order now. What Are Ears For? and What Are Eyes For? are two new books part of the “A Training Young Hearts” series. The first two books, What Are Mouths For? and What Are Hands For?, are available now.

Abbey Wedgeworth has created fun lift-the-flap books for kids while providing a useful tool for adults. They’re a quick, easy read that show our kids that God created them with eyes and ears and why:

God made my ears to LISTEN to MUSIC...

Wedgeworth does a great thing here, she then tells us what God didn’t make our eyes or ears for:

Did God make my eyes to LOOK DOWN on others?

Don’t give too much time to those pages with a ton of examples (I tend to do this) because she gives us Jesus next! Our kids see that Jesus was here and human, just like us, and He used His eyes and ears to obey God.

LOVE IT!

The next spreads show us the things we might do with our eyes and ears, which are not pleasing to God and how to change it. I really like this part because Wedgeworth doesn’t just tell our kids that the behavior needs to change -rolling of the eyes, ignoring instructions - she teaches them that they can pray and ask for help from the Holy Spirit. She teaches that it comes from the heart and the only way the heart changes is through God’s forgiveness, following Jesus’ example, and allowing the Holy Spirit to be our eyes and ears.

LOVE THIS TOO!

I highly recommend adding this series to your home library. Great, simple lessons that when learned early in life will benefit our kids throughout the rest of their lives. The illustrations are bright and cartoon-like, the colors are bold. The borders along the Jesus pages are so special! The flaps are huge and are perfect for the little fingers learning fine motor skills.
